Contributing to cutting-edge research on urban landscape perception and sustainable urban futures
Research Objectives
HereSay is developed as part of a PostDoc research project focusing on urban landscape perception
through gamification. The platform addresses critical research gaps in understanding how different
socio-demographic groups perceive and interact with urban blue and green spaces.
Using approaches from Design Science Research, natural language processing, computer vision, and
spatial analysis, the collected data provides unprecedented insights into urban affordances,
preferences, and well-being correlations.
WP1: Data Collection
Collecting multimodal UBGS data through gamified participation, including text descriptions,
images, ratings, and spatial information from diverse contributors.
WP2: Perception Analysis
Analyzing how individuals and different socio-demographic groups interact with and perceive
urban blue and green spaces through NLP and computer vision techniques.
WP3: Affordance Arrays
Comparing urban spaces through affordance theory and exploring correlations with appreciation
and subjective well-being to inform policy decisions.
Impact & Applications
The research aims to provide much-needed policy guidelines for sustainable urban development,
ensure citizen well-being while increasing urban livability and resilience, and foster participation
in co-creation and co-governance of urban spaces.
By motivating participants from various cultural and socio-demographic backgrounds, HereSay enables
unprecedented inquiries into the perceptual dimensions of urban fabric, ultimately addressing
important societal questions about reconciling valuable urban dimensions with increasing urbanization.
